Kilim Rugs (Flat weaves)
Kilim, a word of Turkic origin, is often used as a catch-all for any flat-woven, non-piled rug. But technically speaking, the term refers only to rugs of broad Anatolian origin made in the traditional style: hand-woven on a loom with wool and cotton. Reversible, durable, and eminently versatile, kilims are prized for their gorgeous arrays of brilliant colors and patterns.
Like kilims, hand-knotted pile rugs have been in production for centuries, dating all the way back to the Turkic nomads. Their extremely high quality, durability, and boldness in both color and pattern can be attributed to the painstaking craftsmanship employed in their construction, in which small knots of wool, cotton, or silk are used to create a thick, lush pile.
Our vintage, handmade kilim and knotted pile runners share their full-sized counterparts’ pedigree, and are perfect for narrow, high-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens and foyers.
These smaller versions of our woven kilims and hand-knotted rugs are perfect for adding color, warmth, and style to any part of your home. Made of the same extremely high quality as our larger rugs, they’re highly versatile - use one as an accent rug, a doormat, a bathmat, even a yoga mat!
Kilim Pillow Covers
We create beautiful and unique pillow covers using vintage Anatolian kilims and rugs sourced directly from villages all across Turkey. We offer various sizes and style to complement any décor.
Known as peshtemals and traditionally used in Turkish baths, these fringed cotton towels originated in Bursa, Turkey, in the 17th century. Because of their flat and lightweight cotton weave, peshtemals absorb water faster, dry more quickly, and are more compact and efficient than standard bath towels. They’re also extremely versatile, and can be used as shawls, decorative throws, tablecloths, and even swaddling blankets!
